Preservice Training

Health Advocacy Training for Pediatric and other Health Professions Students

aims to increase understanding of the health care experiences and the needs of adolescents and young adults with I/DD among health care professionals. The curriculum will be disseminated through the Illinois Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics (ICAAP) and The Institute for Child Health Policy' health care transition listserv (http://hctransitions.ichp.ufl.edu/listserv.html).

Evaluation of this training for pediatric residents has documented their increased knowledge, improving attitudes, and enhancing self-efficacy towards health advocacy for adolescents with disabilities after attending the Health Advocacy Training Workshops. Ongoing workshops will be offered by RRTC staff. Beth Marks, RN, PhD and Jasmina Sisirak, PhD, MPH.
